Found Sound Nation Presents: Hear Be Dragons

Found Sound Nation and the Bertha Foundation present Hear Be Dragons, a unique collaborative performance between young artists from South Africa and Brooklyn. This performance features the works created during a yearlong sonic exploration and exchange between these artists from the township of Nyanga, Cape Town, South Africa and The El Puente Arts Academy in Brooklyn, New York City. The performance will also feature collaboration with renowned US and South African musicians and performers – Kyla-Rose Smith, Andrew Orkin of Tiger + Man, puppeteer and theatre maker Karen Zasloff, and award winning vocalist Vuyo Sotashe.

Philadelphia born, Soul Singer, Bilal is one of the most dynamic artists of our time. He has collaborated with Kendrick Lamar, Common, Erykah Badu, Kimbra, J Dilla, Robert Glasper, JayZ and more. He’s received 4 Grammy nominations, taking home a win for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration on “These Walls” with Kendrick Lamar, Anna Wise and Thundercat. Bilal is an eclectic–drawing from gospel, jazz, soul, blues, and hip-hop.

Jazztopad Festival Presents: Lutosławski Quartet & Uri Caine

Tonight’s concert creates an opportunity for the audience to meet the extraordinary musical persona of Uri Caine, an American classical/jazz pianist and composer. He was born in Philadelphia, USA, on 8 June 1956. He began is piano lessons at the age of 7, and at 12 he started learning with the French jazz pianist Bernard Peiffer. In the years that followed Uri studied at the University of Pennsylvania, where his mentor was George Crumb, one of the most distinguished representatives of the world musical avant garde. At that period Uri Caine also explored the classical music technique, simultaneously playing at clubs. Already at a young age Uri Caine was influenced by diverse musical worlds (jazz, avant garde, classical), which has continued to bear fruit in the intriguing and specific style of his work to date.
