“The Odysseus Agreement” is an in-progress performance memoir in song that tells the story of a young woman on a single-minded quest to learn about the life and tragic death of her grandmother and namesake. Her trials send her to the bottom of a swimming pool, through the municipal offices of Northern New Jersey, to Fort Lauderdale, and down to The Underworld. She dodges sea monsters, whirlpools, and Lotus-eaters, makes futile offerings to the gods, and does battle with the Siren voices in her midst in order to find her way home. Written and performed by Jean Rohe with her band: Chris Tordini (bass), Jordan Perlson (drums), James Shipp (percussion/synthesizers), and Liam Robinson (keyboards/accordion), plus special guests.

With her new release Lola (out February 19 on her Luz Records label), Austin-based Chicana singer/songwriter Carrie Rodriguez realizes her dream of presenting her deeply personal take on Tex-Mex music. The fan-funded album, which features an all-star band that includes Bill Frisell, Viktor Krauss, and Raul Malo among others, pairs her ranchera-inspired original tunes sung in English and “Spanglish” alongside contemporary interpretations of songs by her favorite Mexican composers delivered in Spanish. The result is heartfelt music that evokes, in her own words, “the rich landscape of blended cultures that I call home.” Rodriguez and Luke Jacobs, both accomplished singers and multi-instrumentalists, bring their soulful sound to our intimate performance space.
