Cornelius Dufallo and Patrick Derivaz present: Bass Violin
Tuesday, October 11th @ 7pm
Composer/violinist Cornelius Dufallo (ETHEL, Flux Quartet) and composer/bassist Patrick Derivaz (Joe Zawinul, Tom Verlaine) present the release of their second album entitled The Walk.
Using composed material as a point of departure, Bass Violin is an improvised project that explores a meditative, quasi-hypnotic aesthetic in which variation is slowed to a nearly imperceptible rate. Within this sound world, the combination of registral extremes and a rich palette of digital tone colors create music that is deeply engaging on both an emotional and psychological level.

The show for NS is an augmented solo. The artist asks the audience to reconcile untuned guitar noise and ballad singing. Placing speakers in and around the audience makes further demands on their intimacy.
Bill Bowen is helping the artist adapt the NS sound system for the evening.

David T. Little & Royce Vavrek’s Dog Days
Sunday, October 16th @ 7pm
National Sawdust and VIA Records are proud to celebrate the release of the original cast recording of David T. Little and Royce Vavrek’s critically acclaimed opera Dog Days.
For this special evening, cast-members Lauren Worsham, Cherry Duke, Marnie Breckenridge, and James Bobick are joined by pianist James Johnston and clarinetist Eileen Mack of Newspeak to perform excerpts from the opera, as well as two additional works also by Little: one a song inspired by Ellie Lee’s 2001 film version of Dog Days, the other a world premiere arrangement of a traditional English ballad central to the opera’s score and plot.
