Miranda Cuckson Presents: Fonema Consort
Sunday, April 3rd @ 7pm
Fonema Consort examines various contemporary approaches to the voice and pays homage to Webern’s vocal music, which even now is a decisive force shaping the course of music. The program travels from the thoughtful dissection of a Borges poem, to unbridled dramaturgy; from the purely sonic understanding of phonemes; to the spiritual texts Webern set to formalize his use of the 12-tone method. “Of Tongues” ultimately reveals that phonology and semantics are powerful tools to develop expressive musical possibilities. The Chicago-based group is joined by violist Miranda Cuckson.
