Sonic and Womxyn Amplify

Events with Sonic and Womxyn Amplify

ABOUT:
A force of soulful, slow-burning R&B, Sonic is a singer/songwriter with a unique relationship with sound: she’s partially deaf. She will collaborate with her collective Womxyn Amplify, an experiential production house that creates experiences that amplify the voices of LGBTQIA womxyn and non-binary artists, to craft an immersive performance that spotlights the path to self-knowledge and acceptance.
PROJECT:
As a queer, partially deaf artist and womxyn of color, Sonic interacts with the world in a singular way. With Womxyn Amplify, she’ll immerse audiences in an experiential journey of self-love and affirmation using National Sawdust’s newly-installed Meyer Sound system as conduit of connection, in hopes that audiences can experience the spiritual, emotional, and physical aspects of her world. The result, Seasons, is an aural journey towards self-discovery as told through the seasonal and emotional divisions of the year.
IN THE ARTIST’S WORDS:
“I hope to use Seasons as a catalyst to step out of my comfort zone and into my vulnerability, in hopes that sharing my truth will create an atmosphere of healing, connection, and empathy for all who are along for the ride.”
Bios
Sonic
Originally hailing from the Bay Area, Sonic is an innovative and formidable vocalist and artist currently residing in New York City. Sonic’s soulfully versatile and dynamic sound is uniquely amplified by the fact that she is profoundly deaf in one ear and partially in the other. The name Sonic represents her distinctive ability to break barriers and transcend the limitations of her abilities through the gift and expression of song.
In 2015, Sonic secured a spot on The Voice Season 8, singing her way to the Top 20. Later that summer, she dropped her multifaceted mixtape WAV, and in 2017, she released the empowering anthem “I Can Be Lonely”. In 2018, as co-founder of her production team, Womxyn Amplify, Sonic helped launch Sisters Unsigned, an inclusive, intimate concert series created to amplify the voices of independent women and non-binary artists of color. As co-host and headliner, she and her team have catapulted Sisters Unsigned to one of the Top 50 Airbnb Experiences in the world.
Earlier this year, Sonic released her much anticipated debut LP, Seasons, a vulnerable, introspective take on heartbreak, self-reflection, and self-love that invites listeners on a cathartic journey through her many “seasons” of self, affirming and celebrating her identity as a queer woman of color in the world.
Following the release of her LP, she was asked to headline her first indie showcase at the 2019 SXSW Music & Arts Festival. Sonic is currently in the studio working on new music.
