On its opening night, on October 1, 2016 at 7 pm, NS Artist in Residence, Sophia Brous, and NS Artist in Residence, Helga Davis, with their colleagues, including NS Artist in Residence Reggie “ Regg Roc” Gray, will embark a deeper understanding of community and humanity in today’s world by breaking traditional forms and boundaries.
Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society

Brooklyn-based composer Darcy James Argue and his 18-piece ensemble Secret Society celebrate the release of their much-anticipated third album, Real Enemies. Composed by Argue, Real Enemies is a 13-chapter exploration of America’s fascination with conspiracy theories; narratives behind the Red Scare, the Illuminati, Edward Snowden, and alien sightings are meticulously examined and interrogated through Argue’s dazzling score.

Todd Reynolds with his ever evolving digital fiddle which now includes a modular synth from the analog world
The beautiful songs and composition of Aaron Roche with string quartet.
Sxip Shirey will present a new composition “Amelia Earhart Found” which features morse code poetry snuck into pizzicato strings and the sound of his grandfather’s morse code key. This performance features Basil Twist with Stickman and the next evolution of “Latency” wtih dancer Coco Karol and violinist Rima Fand featuring a series of cell phones calling each other with speakers on to create latency loops.
Dessa will perform poetry and then join Sxip for a collaborative performance.

As one of Brazil’s topselling artists and with multiple Grammy nominations, world-renowned singer-songwriter Bebel Gilberto has captivated fans and earned critical acclaim worldwide as the torchbearer of Brazil’s Bossa Nova tradition. She is the daughter of Brazilian music icon João Gilberto, one of the artists to first establish the genre of Bossa Nova in the country.

The House Taken Over by composer Vasco Mendonça and librettist Sam Holcroft
An opera based on the 1946 short story by Argentine writer Julio Cortázar featuring a score by composer Vasco Mendonça. It tells the story of a brother and sister living together in their ancestral home which is being “taken over” by unknown entities. Directed by Artist-in-Residence RB Schlather, The House Taken Over starts in a realist manner, slowly introducing a scene in which natural laws are distorted within a unique 4-D set.
