About the Show
Local
THE REVOLUTION is a performance series highlighting Brooklyn & Harlem based artists + musicians that not only represent the core of independent pop culture but who currently stand in the breeding ground of evolution within their genre.
This local musical movement empowers community, change, and activism through performance and unity amongst the arts. Once a month, three different artists showcasing three different genres have a chance to spread love, light, and awareness through their music and their stories. This series supports revolutionary artistry and how important music is to healing, in all aspects of life.
As a part of VOL. 21, The Revolution will feature three incredible live performances from local artists:
Fusilier, Shenna, and Lohai.
About the Artists
Fusilier
Fusilier grew up in Atlanta during the height of its local label boom. After his days in the punk band RIBS, he decided to bring the breadth of his influences to the forefront. The Brassland Records artist has two singles available, “The Moment” and “Make You”, which help complete the picture of a budding genre-bender who’s part punk, part R&B, part funk and showing a whole lot of promise.
Shenna
An only child from Woodbridge, VA , SHENNA always knew she was different than the other kids her age. She discovered her musical talents early on and began performing in showcases at the age of 7. Shenna Somsmieh, known by her stage name SHENNA, is now a singer, songwriter, actress, dancer, co-producer, and model who since the age of 7 has performed in front of thousands across the U.S. and Canada. Notable performances includes: Toronto’s Mod Club, Disney World, Webster Hall (where she opened for Swedish artist Sebastian Mikael), Central Park in New York City and the 2015 Washington, D.C. Pride Festival hosted by Hot 99.5. SHENNA finds her second home on stage. She has also received radio airplay and blog reviews in several countries such as Poland, Africa, Australia, and London.
In May 2014, SHENNA released her first EP, Dream In Color, holding the number-one spot on Bandcamp in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia market for several months. In October of 2016 her first album “Made Of Gold” was released and landed over 150,00 streams on Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist. SHENNA is working on several projects as a singer-songwriter for The Music Playground Publishing Company. She was featured on MTV.com, Macy’s American Rag’s Ragged Mag, as well as Examiner. Two records from her studio album, Made of Gold, are featured on the 2016 Season of “The Bad Girls Club”, Teen Mom OG, and on MTV’s “Finding Carter”. Several of her videos featured on AXS TV, VH1, Oxygen , Netflix, and CMT.
Lohai
Lohai is a magnetic collaboration between Alita Moses and Devon Yesberger that blends their jazz spirits with their love for thoughtful lyrics and infectious melodies. Supported by a full band, Lohai performs a dynamic set that carries listeners of all persuasions through the canyons and clouds of contemporary music. Their sound has been compared to Emily King, Lianne La Havas and Michael Kiwanuka, and their casual character on stage makes any performance feel intimate and personal. Be sure to catch their set at National Sawdust on November 18th, and in the meantime check out their first single Baby I Know You Will and peruse the audio/visual offerings at www.lohaitheband.com
