About the Artists
Valerie Orth
“Valerie Orth inspires listeners to shake off self-doubt and detractors so that they can take control of their lives and relationships” -Consequence of Sound
Valerie is a prolific alt-pop songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer with a strong, feminist sense of self. Integrating live instruments with electronic sounds, her Brooklyn-by-way-of-San Francisco-influenced music is unique and authentic.
Valerie’s new EP, Wake You, carries the upbeat production and warmth of Sylvan Esso, the unexpected rhythms and percussion of Tune-Yards, and the dark vocals and trippy-ness of Portishead. Popdust Magazine also compares Valerie’s “confident command” to St. Vincent.
“Valerie Orth is more than just a pretty voice. She is a force to be reckoned with” – Music Existence
The Odd Hawk Orchestra
The Odd Hawk Orchestra is a 9 piece band based in Brooklyn. Khemestry and The Harlem Society
Khemestry was born in Washington D.C and began playing trumpet around age 11 or 12 In Queens New York at P.S. 48 under the direction of Jerome Austin. His inquisitive nature lead him to pursue and investigate various styles of music from bebop with Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk to the Baroque era with Bach. His love for music grew into a deep passion for music over the years and encouraged a versatile approach playing both classical orchestral trumpet concertos to virtuosic jazz solo from greats like Freddie Hubbard and Louis Armstrong. After attending The Frank Sinatra School of the arts, Khemestry would go on to attend the Juilliard school where he would meet Jon Batiste for the first time becoming someone he considers a good friend now. He went on to study with people like Wynton Marsalis, Eddie Henderson, Ray Drummond, Kenny Barron , Charles Tolliver and Jimmy Owens to name a few . Several years later Khemestry would be invited to tour with Jon for a brief time before he broke off to pursue his own musical endeavors. Following that experience he would go on to play with people like Yalonda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Ray Chew, Dionne Warwick, Damien Sneed and many others. Currently, he is working on several projects of his own, one being called “The Harlem Society” which he is the bandleader. They are based out of Harlem and are setting the tone for the new Generation coming up now. Inspiring millions one by one!
