About the Show
The B(LA)K experience is a performative memoir of Latasha Alcindor’s newest album B(LA)K. Well received by the public, B(LA)K is personal and relatable work. Today, Latasha takes the audience through a metaphysical journey of her traumas, shifts and healing, growing up in Brooklyn from the early 90’s til present day. The B(LA)K performance will dive deep into LA’s personal stories and speak to current climatic variables such as racism, police brutality, crime, gentrification, classism and how these once implicit issues are now at the forefront of changing Brooklyn natives’ lives forever. B(LA)K is how the surroundings affect the child, and how these effects transfer to the young adult, leaving valleys of challenges that follow into adulthood. B(LA)K is for everyone but is dedicated to the stories of Black Womanhood in Brooklyn, NYC.
Latasha Alcindor, also informally addressed as “LA,” is an independent music and visual artist based out of New York City. Her form-free art travels through a wide range of inspiration found in Experimental, Dance, Jazz, Electronic and Hip Hop music. LA’s energetic calls and performance-based sound have opened doors for her to perform at culturally prestigious events like SXSW, A3C, and Manifesto. In 2016, she performed as the headlining act for Brooklyn Museum’s First Saturdays and Toronto’s AGO First Thursdays and became an Artist in Residence at National Sawdust. Latasha finds resonance in speaking and exhibiting works of art in musical and graphic design mediums on her personal story, social commentary and cultural experiences in her music, promoting a much needed agenda for those looking to find inner peace, specifically young women of color. With all of her depth, the beauty in LA’s creative style exists due to the juxtaposition of both her thought-provoking, influential messages and her blithe, unbound sound that carries in strong vibration. Her journey is continuous, and with a nonrestrictive formula it actively speaks to those that come across her experiences. For more information on Latasha Alcindor, please visit latashaalcindor.com.
