About
Brooklyn-based singer Shrines (Carrie Erving) has drawn comparisons to Sylvan Esso, Björk, and Sinead O’Connor. In this co-presentation of the Irish Arts Center and National Sawdust, she performs reimagined Irish traditional sean-nós songs and original compositions from her debut EP Release and new album Our Ship Is Ready, mixing dance and visual design elements with ethereal vocals, string arrangements, synth drones, and electronic flourishes.
Catalan singer/producer NOIA (Gisela Fullà-Silvestre), whose music combines traditional Spanish melodies and vivid electronic textures, opens the evening. Her sound reflects her many musical and cultural influences, including dancehall and tropicalia radio, soul, and cinematic soundscapes.

The Artists
Carrie Erving is a singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and Lincoln Center teaching artist. Originally from Massachusetts, she developed a love of traditional folk songs while earning her bachelor’s degree in classical voice from Ithaca College, and traveled to Ireland to earn a master’s degree in Irish Traditional Song from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. As a teaching artist, she works primarily with youth in NYC’s underserved communities, and spearheaded the integration of music production technology in Lincoln Center’s residencies in the classroom. For several years she has been an active member of Female Frequency, a group that supports the creation of music made entirely by female-identifying and non-binary artists, and has helped support their workshops and showcases, including a performance at SXSW in 2019. Other teaching artist work includes Irish Arts Center, 92Y, and the Little Orchestra Society. As a performer, she has played many rock venues and festivals, including The Late Show with David Letterman, SXSW, Northside Festival, CMJ, Baby’s Alright, Bowery Ballroom, and Rough Trade.
Carrie’s eclectic background in opera, rock, folk, and electronic music influences both her work with students and her current compositions. She recorded and released her first album in Berlin, Germany, and her second in NYC with her former band, Ponyhof. Her love of travel and music has led her to live in Ireland, Germany, New Mexico, and New York. A sought-after voice in the NYC Irish music community, she has performed as a featured singer at events and venues at Bloomsday on Broadway (Symphony Space), the Appel Room at Lincoln Center, and with Lúnasa at 92Y. Her singing has been featured on NPR’s Radiolab and BBC Radio. She currently lives in Brooklyn and performs under the moniker Shrines, and has worked with a wide array of artists, including Yo-Yo Ma and Will Butler of Arcade Fire.
NOIA is the solo project of singer/producer Gisela Fulla. Gisela was born and raised in
Barcelona by a family of activists. She moved to New York and began working as a sound designer/mixer and music composer for film. She also started producing music with
traces of traditional Spanish melodies and sound design under the name of NOIA, which means “girl” in Catalan. She sings in Spanish, English, and Catalan. She has released two records: Hàbits and Crisàlida (Cascine Records).
