About this Event
Wednesday, May 25th 7pm
Hear the U.S. premiere live performance of the music from Sandhills Reunion (2004), an album with music by Jerry Granelli and text by Rinde Eckert on May 25th at National Sawdust. The piece is a multi-layered interweaving of words and music that Granelli calls an audio movie or play. Granelli’s score is woven through Eckert’s text made from a glancingly linked sequence of reflections, imaginings, internal monologues and one historically accurate dialogue (“Twenty Questions for an Outlaw”) using the persona of Billy the Kid as a thematic touchstone, and the Sandhills region of northwestern Nebraska as the landscape of memory and desire.
The concert on May 25 will feature performances by Ben Goldberg (clarinet), Ned Rothenberg (bass clarinet), Andy Laster (baritone sax), Richard Eckert (cello), Christian Kogel (electric and acoustic guitars), J. Anthony Granelli (bass, lap steel guitar), Jerry Granelli (drums, samples), and Rinde Eckert (voice).
