The Artists

Sara Auster will facilitate National Sawdust’s very first Sound Bath. To celebrate this special event and the release of her upcoming book, SOUND BATH: Transform Your World through the Art of Listening, Auster has created a unique, site specific Sound Bath experience exploring communication and interconnectivity.
Using a holistic approach to well-being, Auster’s carefully crafted, immersive Sound Bath experiences create a space that allows sound to be used as a tool to access meditative states, cultivate deep relaxation, and inspire meaningful connection and change. As a sound therapist, meditation teacher, and author, she has been a driving force in bringing Sound Baths to contemporary culture.
Auster will lead participants through a relaxing and meditative Sound Bath to start the evening using the soothing sounds of crystal singing bowls, gongs, tuning forks and other hand-made instruments. Following, Sara and her collaborator Amyra Leon (musician, playwright, author & educator) will guide attendees through a vocal and visual meditation. The duo will engage in a conversation using improvisational sound and projected images to illuminate the power and immediacy of sound, emotion, and human connection.
Amyra Leon is a musician, playwright, author & educator. She has toured numerous times across the US & UK performing in collaboration with the likes of the BBC, Roundhouse, Amnesty International and more. An alumna of the Nuyorican Slam Team, she fuses music and poetry through powerfully transparent performances focusing on social inequalities and celebrating love, blackness, and what it means to be a woman. She is the author of two collections of poetry: the water under the bridge and Mouth Full of Concrete and has several literary projects in the works. Her musical debut, Something Melancholy, has led to her sharing stages with Talib Kweli, Common, Melanie Fiona, Alice Smith and more.
