About this performance
Session Three: Watching the Watchmen – Reflections of the Evolution of Race, and Justice and Saturday, February 27 at 8:00pm
Featuring The Mason Jar Music Collective, Ernest Baker, Jonathan Seale, Matthew Harder, Gabriel Dance and more.
The final session of the festival begins with dancer Ernest Baker performing Still Strange, a piece about lynching, to the music of Nina Simone’s “Strange Fruit.” Then, Mason Jar Music’s own Jonathan Seale performs “In C” by Terry Riley. Following will be two talks: one by political theorist Matthew Harder on civic technology, and one by The Marshall Project’s Gabriel Dance on capital punishment and the justice system. Closing the session will be two short films: “18 Black Girls Ages 1-18…,” a filmed performance about the representation of African-Americans in the media; and “A Few Honest Words,” a filmed performance in the Lincoln Memorial that addresses political corruption.
