About
In this concert tribute to the late João Gilberto, whose haunting rendition of “The Girl from Ipanema” changed Brazilian music forever, “the best jazz singer out of Mexico” (Jazztimes), Magos Herrera, performs his bossa nova classics with a multicultural crew of New York musicians including Maucha Adnet, Kurt Elling, Anat Cohen, Gregoire Maret, Guilherme Monteiro, Helio Alves, Edward Perez and Alex Kautz.
Magos, who moves seamlessly between jazz, classical, rock, and Brazilian-influenced pop, will perform music written or made famous by Gilberto — a giant of contemporary Brazil who pioneered the bossa nova genre in the late 1950s and had an immense influence on musicians and audiences around the world.
Don’t miss this evening celebrating an icon of Brazilian music with one of the most omnivorous young figures in jazz, a singer who is “stretching the very notion of jazz singing…into a sound that’s bold, thrilling, and effortlessly global” (NPR).
