About the Artists
Amy Leon
Amy Leon is a musician, poet, and educator. She performs frequently all over New York and has toured numerous times across the UK performing in collaboration with the likes of the BBC, Roundhouse, Amnesty International and more. An alumna of the Nuyorican Slam Team, she fuses music and poetry through powerfully transparent performances focusing on social inequalities and celebrating love, blackness, and what it means to be woman. She is the author of two collections of poetry: the water under the bridge and Mouth Full of Concrete and just released her debut album Something Melancholy.
Bush Tea
Bush Tea is a Virgin Islands’ Native Rapper whose sound consists of heavy 808s infused with the highs of steel pans and baritone vocals. Her music is a celebration of both her Caribbean culture and the female figure. The combination of dense rhymes, pop sensibilities, and pure swagger is infectious. Her first single, Bad Gyal, has been on rotation throughout The Caribbean on 95.1 Isle 95, 103.5 The Reef, Kairi FM, Q95, etc. and can be found on Tidal, Spotify, ITunes. Shazam, Apple Music, and more. Bush Tea was recently flown to New York City to open for Nas’ artist Bishop Nehru at a full house at The Knitting Factory, Brooklyn and her debut EP is set to release in Spring/Summer of 2017.
Lyle Omolayo
Lyle Omolayo, a Plainfield, New Jersey native is an emcee who doesn’t rhyme for the sake of riddling. Rooted in community activism and education, Lyle’s music provides a politically charged yet introspective and relatable view tackling topics often overlooked or taboo in hip hop.Dry Season, Lyle’s upcoming project is a follow up to Rainy Season, previously written, recorded, and released while living in Panama. Dry Season features Hasan Salaam, Eli Black, Amani Fela, Latasha Alcindor, Napoleon Da Legend, Jenny Wren, Silent Knight, Danielle Watson, Hendii, Indra and many more.
Lyle Omolayo aka mc enigma is also 1/2 of Negros Americanos, a trilingual hip hop duo formed in Panama City, Panama. Negros Americanos recently released, Lost In The Wilderness a documentary detailing the formation of the group, the journey from New Jersey to Panama and the necessity to break down barriers and engage communities through music and language.
