The FERUS festival is an annual showcase of untamed voices. Presenting the latest in cutting–edge new music with an emphasis on performances that push the envelope, the festival invites artists to perform their newest work in music, multimedia, and beyond. A showcase for all that National Sawdust stands for as a venue and a non-profit, FERUS transcends traditional tropes to let audiences Hear It New!
POWER TO THE GOD WITHIN is an interdisciplinary, immersive experience that re-presents the black being as divine and all powerful. The work employs sound, movement, fashion, film, and mixed media, among other tools. It invites the community into a shared sacred space, provoked and stimulated by expressions of identity, community, and spirituality. The work explores manifestations of God’s divine feminine form — an essence and spirit existing beyond the confines of the physical body. At the core portal for creativity, rebirth, healing, and evolution, we find harmony with our highest selves, connected deeply to the Source of Life Herself, provoking, gathering, and remembering ancient selves as long–lost pathways to a universal force. Abot invites you to reimagine your self and the world you occupy daily, with awakened and conscious mind, body, and spirit.

The Artists
Jojo Abot is a Ghanaian artist expressing herself through music, film, photography, literature,
and performance art. FYFYA WOTO, meaning New Birth – New Discovery, serves as the theme and title for her ongoing project exploring the self as a provocative tool in the discovery, exchange, and evolution of the subject of identity. Through her work, Abot investigates new forms of spirituality and expression as part of a growing global conversation around shared space, identity, and spirituality that exists beyond the conventional bias of color, race, class, or sexual orientation.
After wrapping up an exciting year in NYC as a member of the New Museum’s incubator program NEW INC, Abot has spent the last year touring Australia, New Zealand, and Africa while creating her first multimedia immersive piece titled POWER TO THE GOD WITHIN as an Artist-in-Residence at the acclaimed arts incubator National Sawdust.
Abot has toured with incredible legend Ms Lauryn Hill in the past year, playing shows at Radio City Music Hall, the Greek Theatre, and others along with Common, Seun Kuti, and Stephen Marley. Having performed at iconic venues such as the Apollo Theater on New Year’s Eve to an audience of over a million, the Museum of Modern Art, the Kennedy Center, and Kings Theater, among others, Abot continues to connect with a global audience.
A true cultural fusion and genre-bender in both sound and artistic expression, Jojo Abot is poised to take the world by storm with her uniquely coined AFRO-HYNO-SONIC sound and otherworldly perspective.
