This Is How We Fly, Album Launch: Foreign Fields

This Origins series highlighting Irish music and history at National Sawdust will be co-presented by Irish Arts Center. Throughout the weekend we will hear a wealth of talent and music from Irish and American artists and composers.

This is How We Fly returns to New York to open the festival with their much anticipated second album release. Fusing Traditional Irish music, Swedish folk, Jazz and percussive dance, their new album was recorded live over three performances in Dublin.

Individually, each member has carved out a reputation for not just mastering their chosen fields, but rising above, redefining and renewing the musical world they come from. The band boasts the lineup of the century: a sublime Irish fiddler who’s not afraid to step outside convention, a sophisticated Appalachian hard shoe dancer stepping into the rhythmic foreground, a thoughtful Dublin jazzman who has moved beyond the linear constraints of the genre, and a lyrical Swedish percussionist redefining the melodic and sonic place of drums within the contours of traditional song.

This is How We Fly’s material is utterly unique and having received a rapturous response during their performances in spring 2015, audiences will again be charmed by their collective voice and undeniable live energy fresh off the heels of their newest creation.
