About the Show
Hear opera’s best rising stars as the Académie of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence presents Polish countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński in recital with pianist Michal Biel. Raved by The New York Times as a singer with “uncommon unity of color and polish,” Orliński was chosen from a pool of hundreds of applicants as an HSBC Laureate of the Académie of the Festival d’Aix. In addition to his selection as Laureate in 2017, Orlinski has performed across Europe and North America, and is the winner of numerous international competitions.

The Académie du Festival d’Aix is, since 1998, a centre of excellence for vocal and instrumental training, a platform for reflection, experimentation and creation of opera and innovative forms, and also a place that caters for the professional development of young artists. It offers them the opportunity to take part in residencies and perform in concerts and opera productions at the Festival d’Aix as well as on tours across France and abroad throughout the year.
Committed to supporting young talents, HSBC has been joining with the Académie of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence since 2006. The artistic direction of the Festival selects each year a new set of singers, a pianist vocal coach and a chamber music ensemble. The HSBC France group supports these young artists – the HSBC Laureates – chosen among the Académie’s most promising talents, enabling them to build on the experience they have gained during the Festival and to perform in recitals and concerts in France and abroad.
