Doors open at 5pm.
Polymath is an evening of music, philosophy, and interactive exploration. This event brings together a multigenerational group of composers, performers, writers and activists presenting new works and a dialogue about the future of music, philosophy and social change in New York City. The evening begins with a series of interactive installations, followed by performances of Polymath’s collaborative duos and short talks that provide insights and framework for the music being presented. These pieces are an attempt to bring about a debate around contemporary issues in music and create musical works born out of philosophical questions. They are a step towards developing a discursive music and a philosophy in motion.

Found Sound Nation
Found Sound Nation (FSN) is a collective of artists who use music-making to connect people across cultural divides. FSN believes that collaborative music creation is a deeply effective way to become aware of the beauty, trauma, and hidden potential in our communities. Their process gives voice to the underrepresented, unlocks the creative potential of youth, and supports movements for social justice. Founded by Christopher Marianetti and Jeremy Thal in 2010, FSN began it’s work as part of the groundbreaking new music organization Bang on a Can.
Polymath Club
Polymath Club is a research/creation group that investigates the relationship between philosophy and music. The group is composed of philosophers, musicians, activists and academics young and old interested in broaching the gap between philosophical inquiry and musical composition. Born out of a seeming disparity between the main approaches of the two traditions (conceptuality and aesthetic experience), Polymath brings philosophers and musicians together into a critical and creative space.
