The Artists

Alex Weston is a composer and producer whose film scores have premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, the Berlinale, the Venice Biennale, and many others. His music has been featured on “The Affair” (Showtime), the Ken Burns-produced documentary “The Emperor of All Maladies” (PBS), and various projects for HBO, NBC, and Netflix. Alex has had concert works commissioned by groups including the Lyrica Chamber Music Ensemble, the Utah Wind Symphony, and Ballet in the City, and has recently had his work played at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Alex is currently the music assistant to composer Philip Glass.

Andrew Rowan is a composer working primarily in chamber, electronic, and improvised music. Beyond concert music, he is committed to orchestrating for and collaborating with other artists, songwriters, bands, and dancers, tailoring work to any space in which instrumental music can find a supportive and meaningful role. Current projects include his “Trio” with Gregory Uhlmann (guitar) and Lauren Elizabeth Baba (viola), which focuses on electroacoustic compositions that deal with variables in structure and improvisation; “Tanya”, a shapeshifting chamber ensemble performing through-composed work that will release their first EP, “Tanya Largos”, on NYC-based Susan Records in July 2018; and a collaboration with LA-based singer-songwriter Steven Kai van Betten (Fell Runner, Kidi Band) that will release an album in late 2018/early 2019. Rowan’s compositions and arrangements for large ensemble have received awards from ASCAP (2011, 2013, 2015) and from Downbeat Magazine (2010). Working extensively in the realm of film, TV, and media music in addition to being a member of JoAnn Kane Music Service, Rowan has transcribed and copyedited music for dozens of projects including “Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens”, “Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi” (both John Williams), “Ferdinand” (John Powell), “Lady Bird” (Jon Brion), “The Finest Hours” (Carter Burwell), and many more.

Louis S Cohen is a Brooklyn-based guitarist, producer, and songwriter of the band Loosie. His sound is defined by sonic and emotional contrasts, quiet space vs punishing density, and opiated detachment vs grounded vitality. His debut solo album, “Winter”, (Susan Records, summer 2018) is created around feelings of love and growth in the face of crippling depression. It is a project largely based in composition through improvisation.
