About this Program
Sunday, April 24th 4pm
American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME), with special guest Greg Fox, will perform Charlemagne Palestine’s Strumming Music, which they will develop during their National Sawdust residency. ACME Artistic Director Clarice Jensen has created an instructional/graphic score for the piece based on the recording of Palestine’s Strumming for Strings released in 2010 on Sub Rosa. That 1977 performance by musicians from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music was organized by John Adams.
Performers include Caleb Burhans and Ben Russell, violins; Paul Wiancko, cello; Timo Andres, piano; Grey Mcmurray, guitar; Chihiro Shibayama, percussion, and special guest Greg Fox, drums.
“[ACME] maintained the hypnotic beauty and heart-quickening intensity of the music, and there were moments when rows of audience members swayed and nodded to its pulse as if bobbing on water.” -The New York Times
