Caroline Polachek
Artist in Residence
Caroline Polachek is a Brooklyn-based musician and songwriter known as the vocalist for Chairlift, as well as for writing Beyoncé’s single “No Angel.”
PROJECT:
Create a four-part choral series that gives high profile artists access to a choir and an arranger to reimagine selections from their catalog for polyphonic voice. Each artist would have access to the choir for one month leading up to two nights of performance, leaving with world-class live recordings of both nights, from which a selection would be released. The series would bring in composers from diverse genres, including performers who don’t typically work with voice, to more fully explore choir as an instrument in 2017. The first iteration will feature Caroline and Choral Chameleon on February 23 and 24, 2017.
IN THE ARTIST’S WORDS:
“I grew up singing in choir and my biggest musical mentor is my childhood choir director. With this project, National Sawdust Choral Series would provide artists with an opportunity to present the power of group voice from new perspectives. This is a dream come true for me and I am very excited to begin!”
